Women’s Retreat: Finding Our Wild Instinct

Finding Our Wild InstinctDr. Frisch often utilizes rich stories from Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Ph.D. as guiding visions for her workshops. For this women’s retreat, Dr. Frisch guides participants through a powerful teaching story, The Red Shoes from Estes’ book Women Who Run with the Wolves. In this class, we confront our unique “traps, cages and poisoned bait” that cause us to suffer “starvation of the soul” and loss of primary instinct. These traps get reflected in our relationships, and can cause us to sacrifice our creativity, lose our courage and follow empty and draining pursuits. Together, we find support, inspiration, and courage as we penetrate deeper and gather insight so we can return to our rightful place-”our rightful wild mind”.

Please join Dr. Frisch and other women in our community as we take this unique journey to reclaim our true nature. She will guide us through experiential exercises that allow us to soften into our powerful inner recognition. This is an opportunity to connect the dots on your map of awareness, development and transformation. Time: 2:43 (2.5 hrs CE Credit)

Live the Path of Understanding and Love

“True love does not just choose one person. When true love is there, you shine like a lamp. That light you emit is for everyone in the room. If you really have love in you, everyone around you will profit – not only humans, but animals, plants, and minerals. Love, true love, is that. True love is equanimity.” — Thich Nhat Hanh

This day is for contemplation, healing and most importantly, stopping. We come together as a community; the Sangha is the expression of the Buddha in our time.
Peace
We bring our clarity and our struggles; without the mud, the lotus does not grow. The practice does not put us at odds with our burdens but rather creates spaciousness around them.

Our Koan for this workshop is 9/11. Our practices support us in cultivating a deep silence in order to ponder its meaning within, the darkness we see outside also exists within each of us. As Thay (Thich Nhat Hanh) wrote:

Do not just look for what you want to see,
that would be futile.
Do not look for anything,
but allow the insight to have a chance to come by itself.
That insight will help liberate you.

During this special day, Dr. Frisch explores these themes:

  • Thay’s Concept of Interbeing: Infinite Interconnectedness and the union of opposites
  • Defining love and compassion through the Dali Lama’s teachings
  • Overcoming our inherent stinginess to find generosity

Mindfulness is a Source of Happiness

Why would my teacher, Thich Nhat Hahn (or, as we refer to him: Thay) say that mindfulness is a source of happiness and joy? Mindfulness is a real, everyday practice of experiencing contact, aliveness, and conscious awareness in the here and now. As he states, “We can recognize the conditions of happiness that are already present in our lives. We can enjoy our breath and touch so many miracles that we can see, feel, sense, and experience”. Even our darkest moments are felt in the here and now; we can experience and share our descent and directly feel our pain or sorrow. We can soften our self-talk and find liberation from our internal chatter that creates tension.

In this workshop, we explore these themes:

  • States of forgetfulness
  • Effortlessness of practice
  • Elegant silence
  • Concentration as a source of happiness
  • Communication from a warm space of listening

These tools can be carried with you always and help you to access your natural contentment in any given moment. We will learn breathing exercises, focused concentration, body awareness, tension release, and walking meditation. We will also practice relational skills that encourage deep listening, patience and mindful communication.
